Three Dark Crowns is about three sisters who must fight and kill each other for the throne. Arsinoe is the "Naturalist" who can control animals and plants. Only her gift doesn't show. Her best friend- Jules- is the toughest and best Naturalist in the last few decade, so her best friend kind of protects her and urges her to use her gift. Her story line in my opinion has the most diverse characters, great world building and is overall my favorite sister.
Mirabella is the toughest sister with the most advanced gift. Shes also the only one who doesnt want to kill her sisters, she loves them. Her emotions for her sisters could be her downfall leading to the throne. The religous faction of the island kind of control her, and the people around her suffers consequences if she doesnt do as they say. (For those who have read the books- ahem- HANDS.) I would find her to be a better character had there NOT been a love story attached to her. When you read the book her character is thrown into a situation with a man and is instantly in love with him. I didn't care for that, it was as though the love story was thrown together.
Katherine is the poisoner, only she doesn't have a gift either. She is constantly pricked and is constantly forced to ingest poison to strengthen herself. As a result she is scarred mentally and physically.
***SPOILER ALERT LEAVE NOW IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE BOOK****
Okay so I totally think Arsinoe and Kat were switched at birth, considering Arsinoe is a poisoner. However I do NOT believe Kat is a Naturalist. I believe she has the war gift, which would make sense because shes so determined to kill her sisters and has endured the poisoning for so long. ORRR Jules is the Naturalist but the poisoners didn't want there to be another Naturalist Queen so they switched Jules with Arsinoe and then grabbed the wrong Poisoner child.
